TRADE UPDATE - SAFARI - SOUTH AFRICA - FAR EAST TRADE - 2007
Trade Facts: Safari - 2007 · Safmarine Meru-Class vessels (4) added December 2006 and throughout 2007. · Helderberg Class moved from Safari 1 to Safari 2 as new Meru-Class phased in. · Helderberg Class phased out - end October 2007 to 2008. · Additional Chinese port of call added in 2007 - The Safari service becomes the first shipping service from South Africa to offer two sailings a week to four key Chinese ports · There are a total of 13 vessels on the combined Safari services · During 2007 three existing vessels were replaced on Safari 2 service - the decision to replace these was motivated by "the need to meet current market growth and customer demand on this trade" said Safmarine's Alex de Bruyn (22 August 2007).
Context: · Safmarine has been a market-leader in the Safari trade for almost 40 years and Safari is currently one of Safmarine's fastest growing trades. · Shipping volumes from Asia to Africa are growing two to three times faster than volumes between Africa and the continents of Europe and North America. The China - South Africa trade has been particularly strong and China is today close to becoming South Africa's number one trading partner on imports.
CUSTOMER ADVISORY - March 12, 2007 SAFARI: UPGRADE SERVICE AND REVISED SCHEDULES Safmarine is pleased to announce the planned upgrade of our Safari shipping services between the Far East and South Africa. A significant feature of the revised Safari services will be two weekly calls in Greater China, with both the main and second string Safari services offering direct calls. The upgrade of the Safari services follows the deployment of new vessels and the decision to include an additional, direct port of call at Ningbo, China. Transit times between the two regions will be reduced and capacity increased as a result of the deployment of faster and larger new tonnage. The Safari services are already the most reliable, dedicated shipping services between South Africa and the Far East and these upgrades will enhance them even further. Transit times Examples of our new, market-leading transit times include: · Shanghai to Durban - 18 days · Yantian to Durban - 13 days · Durban to Hong Kong - 16 days Rotation: Safari 1 Revised rotation, commencing April 8, 2007 ex Shanghai with the Safmarine Meru : Durban - Cape Town - Port Louis -Tanjung Pelepas - Yantian - Shanghai - Ningbo - Yantian - Tanjung Pelepas - Durban Rotation: Safari 2 Revised rotation, commencing May 16, 2007 ex Hong Kong with the Henrika Schulte : Port Elizabeth - Durban - Hong Kong - Tanjung Pelepas - Port Louis - Port Elizabeth
