THE AP MOLLER-MAERSK GROUP IN SOUTH AFRICA -Safmarine (Pty) Ltd is the legal entity which represents the interests of the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group in South Africa. (A.P. Moller-Maersk Group is the world's largest liner shipping group). -South Africa is the only country in the world where the name Safmarine represents more than a shipping brand; as a separate entity, Safmarine Pty Ltd also incorporates and represents the activities of our shareholders' interests in South Africa -Safmarine (Pty) Ltd comprises the following entities: Safmarine, Maersk Line and Maersk Logistics, Southern Africa Transports Investments (SATI) with interests in container depots, Roadwing, a short-haul trucking company, International Delivery Company (IDC), a long-haul trucking company and Ocean Africa Container Lines, specialising in intra-Africa liner services. -Having Safmarine Pty Ltd as an umbrella body is an indication of both the value our shareholder attaches to the Safmarine brand and its commitment to long-term and significant investment in South Africa. -Since July 2005, A.P. Moller Terminals, a global terminal handling company, and Svitzer Wijsmuller, a global salvage company, have been operating in South Africa. Both are wholly-owned companies within the A.P. Moller-Maersk Group. -Safmarine (Pty) Ltd was judged the winner of the Logistics, Shipping and Transport category in the 2007 'Best Company to Work For' (BCTWF) survey. Safmarine Pty Ltd beat six other industry companies to win the 'employer of choice' accolade. -Alan Jones will continue to serve as a board member of Roadwing, a division of Safmarine Pty Ltd, until 2009.
MORE ABOUT ROADWING • As a member of the Safmarine Pty (Ltd) group of companies, Roadwing provides a local container cartages service by delivering customer cargo in 1 300km radius from the ports and terminals in South Africa. • Currently in its 20th year of business (2008) Roadwing is a key contributor to the overall Safmarine service. • Roadwing also has an entrepreneurial and highly innovative 'owner-driver scheme' which has gained significant recongnition. • Roadwing MD Isobel Louw, who introduced the 'owner-driver' concept in South Africa, says Roadwing's owner drivers are drawn from all walks of life, and include Roadwing employees who decide to resign to take on the entrepreneurial challenge. • See Navigator Issue 30 for more on Roadwing
