FEATURE - NEW VESSELS HELP GROW AFRICA'S REEFER TRADE - JUNE 2012
New vessels help grow Africa's reefer trade
 
Safmarine says the introduction of its three 4,500 teu WAFMAX vessels - the Safmarine Chilka, Safmarine Chambal and Safmarine Chachai - will help boost the reefer trade between West Africa and the Far East, thanks to the vessels' increased reefer capacity.  These new WAFMAX vessels are amongst the largest vessels to call at West African ports. Each vessel is equipped with 150 reefer plugs.  But there are also benefits in having bright white vessel hulls. Safmarine says using white, environmentally-friendly paint for the hulls also benefits energy conservation as it lowers the ambient temperature in the holds were reefer boxes are carried - and this means less energy is needed for cooling and less electricity consumed.
