SAFMARINE TO ENHANCE FOCUS ON EAST AFRICAN SERVICES NEXT YEAR

New "safmarinated" service covering East Africa to be launched in March next year
Effective 24th September 2001, A.P. Moller Group carrier Safmarine has tendered notice of termination
of its participation in the slot charter agreement with E.A.C.S. with the intention of launching its own East African service during the month of March next year
"This decision is based upon providing enhanced services to our customers and as part of our long term strategy commiting Safmarine to the region" stated Liner Division Executive Graham Peirce earlier today.
Further details of the new service will be released in a separate statement.
During 2001 Safmarine introduced four new trades in its multi-trade portfolio :-
Transpacific
US oil ports - West Africa (Jazz)
Samba : Middle East - Indian Ocean Islands - Southern Africa - East Coast-South America
South America-North America (Tango and Rumba)
Additionally, the carrier has expanded its presence in dry as well as reefer markets in Europe, the Americas, Asia, Africa and Oceana.

Note to Editors
Safmarine, which is a separately managed member of the Danish A.P. Moller Group, markets its liner shipping services independently from sister company Maersk Sealand.
