Vessel - SA Oranje - Maiden Voyage

Description: The SA Oranje arrives in the port of Durban on her maiden voyage. Pic date: 1992.
Background on the SA Oranje:
• The containership was built in a shipyard in Pula, Croatia.
• The vessel was launched on 25 March 1991 - Sandy Farr, wife of Safmarine MD, Tony Farr, blessed the vessel.
• The vessel arrived in Durban on her maiden voyage on 22 January 1992, with Captain Cameron Mackenzie in command. She had sailed from Trieste via Suez Canal for Singapore where she loaded before crossing the Indian Ocean to Durban.
• She was deployed on the Far East trade and operated on the Amex (American Express Services) during 2009 - 2010.
• In June 2009 five maritime students from Simon's Town Maritime School took a 13 day coastal voyage aboard the vessel as part of their maritime training.

CR - Designer Classroom + Safmariners

Description: This photo of Safmariners Lynn Elliot, Lea-Anne Moses Magerman and Jawahir Nandha was taken on August 12, 2011 at the official handover of a container classroom, designed by a 13 year old learner, to Vissershoek Primary School near Durbanville.
The 'designer classroom' was part of a competition launched last year by Safmarine and its retail customer, Woolworths.
Marshaan Brink from Stellenberg High School won the competition and had the opportunity to work with professional designers and architects and see his ideas come to life.

CR - Grade R learners - Vissershoek Primary School
